Building Strengths

Isn’t it great when you can help someone build their strengths? Children and young people with ADHD have some amazing strengths – creative thinking, enthusiasm for new things, fun, speed, full of ideas. But many with ADHD struggle with low self-esteem and confidence because they are so used to being told to stop doing that, sit down, hold back, act like everyone else etc. etc. etc. They might feel like nothing they do is ever good enough or their contribution isn’t wanted. Finding ways to help young people identify their strengths and then use them, particularly when in groups, classrooms, on projects and teams is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate who they are and what they bring.

There’s a simple strengths activity on the ATTIC website which you could use with a young person to help them find and build their strengths. In fact, anyone could benefit from this activity (including you) so that we make the most of the gifts and talents we have.
