School anxiety

As a parent, I am grateful for all the support and advice that my children’s schools have offered over the years. There are also other organisations that provide fantastic resources, like this webpage from YoungMinds. There are many theories and explanations as to why particular young people might feel anxious and what may help them to manage this anxiety. It’s important to remember that each child is different, each school environment is different, and the way multiple children experience the same school environment is still different.

I’m hoping to start a project to capture and share individual children and young people’s experiences of school, finding creative ways of enabling them to share and make sense of their anxious thoughts and feelings, and to use various methods of telling these stories.

The aim of this project would be to help more children make sense of their experiences, and see that they are not alone, and also to enable young people to use their voice to suggest ways to help them with their anxiety.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic to see children and young people, who previously have been stifled by this anxiety, not simply surviving but thriving in school? Can we make it happen?
